Saturday, April 6
DAY ONE – LET’S FOCUS, PLEASE …

A focused horse just does everything better. We will work on getting into the mind of your horse through specific easy to follow exercises. This training is beneficial for all levels of horse and rider.

** horse and rider current skill level will determine how in depth the teaching goes.

7:30 – 8:30am Meet and Greet/Continental Breakfast
8:30 – 9am Get horses saddled and ready
9 – 11:45am All participants

  • Theory/Demonstration
  • Assessment of horse and rider skill levels
  • Circle exercise
12pm – 1:30pm Lunch & Q and A
Riders will be paired up based on horse/rider
1:30 – 3:00pm 2 riders
3:00 – 4:30pm 2 riders
4:30 – 6:00pm 2 riders
6:00 – 6:30pm Q and A /recap

Sunday, April 7
DAY TWO – LET’S BREAK IT DOWN: LEAD CHANGES AND DEPARTURES

Exercises to improve your horse’s lateral movement including groundwork which directly translates to riding and all the way to avoiding anticipation in the show pen.

7:30 – 8:30am Continental Breakfast
8:30 – 9am Get horses saddled and ready
9 – 9:30am Discussion – how and why groundwork will help with lead changes
9:30am – 12pm Groundwork focused on lateral movement with each rider designed to increase riders’ confidence and strengthen connection with the horse
12pm – 1:30pm Lunch and Q & A
1:30 – 3:30pm 3 riders – focused lead change work
3:30 – 5:30pm 3 riders – focused lead change work
Evaluation following each session of horse and rider and where they are including a plan for improvement (Homework!)

Friday, April 5 at 5:30 pm:  Texas BBQ Dinner and welcome
Friday One-on-One with Matt:  your choice of topics (stops, spins) or Matt and ride and work your horse for you
Auditors:  breakfast & lunch included – bring your favorite comfortable chair!
Friday afternoon move-in (details to follow)
Stalls: may be at a nearby location provided for Friday/Saturday (available for Sunday)
Lodging: several hotels in Weatherford (10 minutes north of ranch)
